No invention arrives alone as each brings its own unintended shadow. The Ford Model T was freedom, the open road and a shrinking world but with it came traffic jams, suburban sprawl and a planet warming under its exhaust fumes. Television provided a sense of connection as the family gathered around the glow of the shared national broadcast. It also spawned passive consumption, the erosion of attention and algorithms that learn your innermost desires. The atom bomb was the end of World War 2, or so its architects told themselves, as it promised deterrence. Instead it gave rise to a world with a permanent fear of annihilation. These are not separate failures but a spiral of unintended consequences.

The spiral represents the cycle of compounding ignorance. As each invention solves a problem created by the previous one, each solution generates new problems. The artwork does not offer a way out, it only asks us to notice and to wonder what unintended consequence our current technologies will bring that we cannot yet see. Silent corridors of time as we race from one innovation to the next, replacing the sacred with the technological.
