Before history began, there was no record. No writing. No witness except the sky and whatever gods imagined themselves into the spaces between the stars. History is not the past. History is the story we tell about the past. That moment we decided to write and build corridors of meaning from scattered bones and broken tools. Before that decision, there was only existence: raw, unchronicled, alive but unrecorded.

The artwork places cavemen at the threshold of that decision. They do not know they are pre-history. They do not know they will become ancestors. They simply strike stone against stone, feed their small fire, and survive. The eye of Horus watching represents the first outside observer that is not a historian, not a writer but something older. The eye sees what the cavemen cannot and that is their small fire is the first spark of innovation that will ultimately lead to the birth of artificial intelligence. History has not yet begun. But the Eye is already watching it arrive.

Before history began, they were free. Then the eye opened and so began the relentless march from stone to silicon.
