This is where flight begins. A basket full of wonder lifts into an empty night sky as it carries dreams that flicker across its polished surfaces. The first successful human balloon flights in the late 18th century marked a profound turning point in humanity’s relationship with the sky, transforming it from an unreachable expanse into a realm of exploration. Human ingenuity overcame the constraints of gravity, electricity, transport and the atom setting in motion a continuum of innovation that would eventually lead to powered flight, rocketry, and space exploration.
Flight was never just about leaving the Earth; it was about leaving behind what we thought we knew. Each ascent carried a sense of uncertainty and fragility but beautiful, and unresolved. That same impulse continues to guide us today, as technological progress is driven not only by curiosity and ambition, but also by the recognition that each breakthrough reshapes our understanding of ourselves. In confronting powerful new creations such as artificial intelligence, we find ourselves facing an existential crisis, not of survival, but of identity. This forces us to question what it means to be human even as we continue to reach beyond our limits.
