We observe two universes. The one is vast, silent, filled with distant galaxies and dying stars. The other universe is within us filled with emotion, meaning and the strange weight of being alive. These two universes have always been separate. Looking Out, Looking intertwines two separate universes in a spiral representing the astronomer that looks up as the musician looks inward and asks whether the two universes are really so different.

The telescope reveals that we are made of stardust — the same carbon and calcium that burns in distant suns. The piano reveals that stardust can feel. It can grieve. It can create beauty for no reason other than to prove it exists. The green binary code — reminiscent of the Matrix — is the modern language that now translates both journeys. We digitize the stars. We digitize our songs. We reduce the cosmos and the self to the same alphabet of zeroes and ones. The spiral suggests that we cannot look outward without also looking inward. Every question we ask about the universe is also a question about ourselves. And every note we play is an echo of a star that died billions of years ago. The artwork does not separate the two journeys. It spirals them together — because the only way to understand where we are is to look both ways at once.
